The next time you hear a politician use the word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money. A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of its releases. A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959. B A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive. C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age. D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet. E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it. While this thought is still fresh in our brain, let's take a look at New Orleans It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), is presently asking the Congress for $250 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number, what does it mean? A. Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man, woman, child), you each get $516,528. B Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787. C. Or, if you are a family of four, your family gets $2,066,012. Washington , D.C ... HELLO!!! ... Are all your calculators broken??
Tax his land, Tax his wage, Tax his bed in which he lays. Tax his tractor, Tax his mule, Teach him taxes is the rule. Tax his cow, Tax his goat, Tax his pants, Tax his coat. Tax his ties, Tax his shirts, Tax his work, Tax his dirt. Tax his tobacco, Tax his drink, Tax him if he tries to think. Tax his booze, Tax his beers, If he cries, Tax his tears. Tax his bills, Tax his gas, Tax his notes, Tax his cash. Tax him good and let him know That after taxes, h e has no dough. If he hollers, Tax him more, Tax hi m until he's good and sore. Tax his coffin, Tax his grave, Tax the sod in which he lays. Put these words upon his tomb, 'Taxes drove me to my doom!' And when he's gone, We won't relax, We'll still be after the inheritance TAX!! Accounts Receivable Tax Building Permit Tax CDL License Tax Cigarette Tax Corporate Income Tax Dog License Tax Federal Incom e Tax Federal Unemployment Tax (FUTA) Fishing License Tax Food License Tax Fuel Perm it Tax Gasoline Tax Hunting License Tax Inheritance Tax Inventory Tax IRS Interest Charges (tax on top of tax), IRS Penalties (tax on top of tax), Liquor Tax, Luxury Tax, Marriage License Tax, Medicare Tax, Property Tax, Real Estate Tax, Service charge taxes, Social Security Tax, Road Usage Tax (Truckers), Sales Taxes, Recreational Vehicle Tax, School Tax, State Income Tax, State Unemployment Tax (SUTA), Telephone Federal Excise Tax, Telephone Federal Universal Service Fe e Tax, Telephone Federal, State and Local Su rcharge Tax, Telephone Minimum Usage Su rcharge Tax, Telephone Recurring and Non-recurring Charges Tax, Telephone State and Local Tax, Telephone Usage Charge Tax, Utility Tax, Vehicle License Registration Tax, Vehicle Sales Tax, Watercraft Re gistration Tax, Well Permit Tax, Workers Compensation Tax. STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY? Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids. What happened? Can you spell 'politicians!' And I still have to 'press 1' for English.

I heard a comedian say one time, "The only way for the U.S. to get out of debt is to declare war on the second richest country in the world and surrender immediately. Let them take care of us. The statement was made in reference to the debt incurred during WWII

I'm all for a Flat Tax,border constraints, minimizing social handouts and putting the Prisons to work. Flat Tax is a direct hand-out to the wealthy. It's simple math. Why do you think that millionaire-dildo Steve Forbes was so horny for it ten years back? Border constraints penalize the result of the problem, not the cause, however I do advocate minefields and sniper towers, as long as they are directed outward, not inward. A secure border is a requisite of any stable, civilized nation. Social Security is a must have, unless you want 90 year olds begging on the street and want to go back to the workhouses , poorfarms, and orphanages which we all know don't work worth a s*it. Dickens-eque Social Darwinism failed 150 years ago. Forced Prison labor is were we get all our cheap good from China. Privatized Prisons were tried 100 years ago in America. It's called Institutionalized Slavery. There was a private prison in Washington State in present day Bucoda, WA. It was called Seatco. It was known nationwide as "Hell on Earth." It was commonplace for prisoners who talked back to guards or otherwise misbehaved to have their fingers smashed with a ball peen hammer, have their gruel cutoff for a week, and then sent back to work the next morning digging coal. Think about that next time you're in court for a DUI or get picked up for illegal fishing for when your WDFW license is sitting on the kitchen counter at home. Over 1 Million Americans are currently in prisons across the U.S. Equal to 1% of our entire population, a larger percentage than any other nation on earth. Some day, all those pissed off MoFo's are going to get out. Talk is cheap. It's easy to answer all our problems with simple sounding solutions, but when put to work, they often result in much more dire problems... Like The War on Drugs/Terror/Porn/naughty music/alcohol/snowboarders/etc..

[quote=NativePreference]Privatized Prisons were tried 100 years ago in America. We still got 'em, luckily not in Washington. Our state transfers inmates to private prisons in other states sometimes. Google "Crowley Riot" to find out what happens.

Flat Tax is a handout to noone, save those that do not make a check or purchase and curtailing social handouts nips that squarely.
Borders are easily enforced,if one is inclined.
Social Security is a bandaid and a feeble crutch. Folks wiping their own asses,is a tried and true reality.
Noone is forced to go to Prison and the inmates shouldn't get much in the way of choices. Much to be said for turning up the heat,as a meaningful deterrent,to even the densest of the lot. Some things should go without saying.
Solutions are as easy as one wishes and bureaucracy easily avoided, but alas...there's no money in that,so it suffers a lack of interest.
Pun intended.

McNeil Island used to be almost 100% self sufficient. Raised their own crops, beef, milk, etc. Then a company sued, because they wanted to sell the prison milk. Argument was prisions were competing with private enterprise. Guess who won ?
I vote Sherrif Joe for President

I like the tax poem. This one just showed up in my email.
I cross ocean, poor and broke, Take bus, see employment folk. Nice man treat me good in there, Say I need to see welfare. Welfare say, 'You come no more, We send cash right to your door.' Welfare checks, they make you wealthy, Medicaid it keep you healthy! By and by, I got plenty money, Thanks to you, American dummy. Write to friends in motherland, Tell them 'come fast as you can.' They come in turbans and Ford trucks, I buy big house with welfare bucks They come here, we live together, More welfare checks, it gets better! Fourteen families, they moving in, But neighbor's patience wearing thin. Finally, white guy moves away, Now I buy his house, and then I say, 'Find more aliens for house to rent.' And in the yard I put a tent. Send for family they just trash, But they, too, draw the welfare cash! Everything is very good, And soon we own the neighborhood. We have hobby it's called breeding, Welfare pay for baby feeding. Kids need dentist? Wife need pills? We get free! We got no bills! American crazy! He pay all year, To keep welfare running here. We think America darn good place! Too darn good for the white man race. If they no like us, they can scram, Got lots of room in Pakistan. It is interesting that the federal government provides a single refugee with a monthly allowance of $1, 890.00 and each can also get an additional $580.00 in social assistance for a total of $2,470.00. This compares very well to a single pensioner who after contributing to the growth and development of America for 40 to 50 years can only receive a monthly maximum of $1, 012.00 in old age pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement. Maybe our pensioners should apply as refugees!
